2011 Great Northwest and Alaska Cruise Tour

North by Southeast - North Little Rock, Arkansas

May 22 - 23, 2010

2 Days & 4 Meals

Special Features

What a neat weekend get-a-way to visit our neighbors just to the Southeast. North Little Rock is located just across the Arkansas River and – you guessed it – north of Little Rock, the state capital. We have some really interesting things for you to see and do – such as touring a real submarine, the USS Razorback and a dinner cruise on a fabulous riverboat. Add to this a once in a lifetime opportunity to view the “World of the Pharaoh Exhibit” at the Arkansas Art Center and it all adds up to a great tour!

Day 1, Saturday, May 22

We travel to North Little Rock just in time for an included lunch at the Starving Artists Café. After lunch, we check into our hotel, get settled in and then depart for an Optional Tour. You will have your choice of visiting the Clinton Library or doing some serious shopping at the McCain Mall. Transportation will be provided; however, the $5 admission to the museum is not included. This evening we will tour the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum that features the USS Razorback (named after a species of whale, not the University of Arkansas mascot). The historic submarine was launched in 1944, conducted several war patrols during World War II and Vietnam, and was present at the surrender of Japan. Next we walk next door to the Arkansas Queen Riverboat for a two hour dinner cruise that affords views of both Little Rock and North Little Rock complete with entertainment
LODGING: Hampton Inn

Day 2, Sunday, May 23

We will begin our day with a tour of The Old Mill which was featured in the opening scenes of history’s biggest box-office hit, Gone with the Wind. Next we visit the World of the Pharaohs. Treasures of Egypt Revealed explores the long-vanished world of ancient Egypt. The exhibition features more than 200 magnificent objects including mummies, a majestic colossus of Ramses the Great, jewelry, statues, intricate art and funerary artifacts. The objects, which span 3,000 years of dynastic history, tell the story of not just how the Egyptians died, but how they lived. This is the largest exhibition ever to be held in Arkansas. After an included lunch at Cock of the Walk, we return to Springfield with an estimated arrival time of 5:30 PM
