Special Features

Passport Required! We must board our train ride in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Canada; therefore a passport will be required. The Railway travels through vast forests, over mountains and into river valleys with magnificent scenery that has been said to rival the Canadian Rockies. Add to this an overnight stay at the fabulous, one of a kind, Grand Hotel and if Mother Nature cooperates, the gorgeous Lilacs will be in full bloom.

Helping Create a Complete and Total Tour Experience!

Some of our travel packages include five-star and one-of-a-kind hotels that are part of your whole tour experience. These hotels offer amenities not found elsewhere and help create a lasting memory. These hotels are shown in RED.

Depart Springfield and travel to Hammond, Indiana.
LODGING: Fairfield Inn by Marriott

Day 2, Sunday, June 6

Our destination today is Gaylord, Michigan.
LODGING: Hampton Inn

MEALS: Breakfast

Day 3, Monday, June 7

Our tour begins in earnest this morning as we continue north and cross the “Mighty Mac” Bridge that spans the Straits and connects the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan. The bridge was completed in 1957 at a cost of $96 Million and is 26,372 feet in length. We will cross the bridge onto the upper peninsula to board our Ferry for an exciting ride on Lake Huron to Mackinac Island. Mackinac Island is a National Landmark and no automobiles are allowed on the Island. Transportation is by foot, bicycle, horse back or horse drawn carriage which is the way we will enjoy our tour of the Island. We check into the Grand Hotel and have plenty of time to check out the longest porch in the world and try out their rocking chairs as we literally “smell the Lilacs”. The Grand Hotel boasts 385 rooms and no two are alike. Dinner is included this evening. Formal wear is required after 6:00 PM – jackets and ties for the men and dresses or pantsuits for the ladies.
LODGING: The Grand Hotel

MEALS: Breakfast   Dinner

Day 4, Tuesday, June 8

We have a leisurely morning to enjoy our included breakfast and maybe take a stroll to view some of the “cottages” on the Island. You may wish to walk into town to do some souvenir shopping or just relax and enjoy this fabulous hotel. We will depart for the mainland after lunch and continue on to Sault Ste Marie, Michigan for our Soo Locks Boat Tour. The Soo Locks have been referred to as one of the great wonders of the world and it is the largest waterway traffic system on earth. You will “lock through” the locks right alongside the huge freighters that travel this waterway.
LODGING: Holiday Inn Express

MEALS: Breakfast

Day 5, Wednesday, June 9

What an awesome day we have in store for you. We go through customs to the Ontario, Canada side of Sault Ste Marie and board the Algoma Central Railway for this one day wilderness excursion which takes you 114 miles north of Sault Ste. Marie to Agawa Canyon, traveling over towering trestles, alongside pristine northern lakes and rivers, and through the awesome granite rock formations and mixed forests of the Canadian Shield. Breakfast and lunch will be included on the train and we will have a two hour stop at Agawa Canyon.
LODGING: Holiday Inn Express

MEALS: Breakfast   Lunch

Day 6, Thursday, June 10

We travel south today, back across the “Mighty Mac” bridge, to Frankenmuth, Michigan. Frankenmuth is a lovely Bavarian Village founded in 1845 by Franconians from Germany. We will include lunch at the Bavarian Inn and then a local guide will give us a short tour of the town. The afternoon is free for you to explore on your own. Enjoy the 35-bell Glockenspiel that tells the story of the Pied Piper, then explore the world of gift shops, bakeries (Um, Good) cheese factories, craft stores and more along main street. This evening our coach will take those that wish to go to the Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland, the largest and best known Christmas decoration store in the world.
LODGING: Springhill Suites by Marriott

Day 7, Friday, June 11

We must depart for home this morning and our journey will take us to that other Springfield in Illinois.
