2011 Great Northwest and Alaska Cruise Tour
Exploring Bentonville - Small Town America
&
We depart Springfield for a short trip to our neighboring state and the city of Bentonville, the town that Sam built, for a delightful day of touring. We begin where it all began, at Walton’s 5 & 10, now the Wal-Mart Visitors Center and Museum. You can trace a timeline of the World’s largest international retailer from its humble beginnings to what it is today. Oh, yes. Don’t forget Sam’s favorite red pickup truck. We will visit the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art which is temporarily housed in the Historic Massey Building displaying a selection of signature works. Lunch is included at the 1875 Peel Mansion. After lunch, we will tour the mansion and the gardens where the roses should be in full bloom. A most interesting audiovisual tour of the newly opened Museum of Native American Artifacts takes you on a journey through 14,000 years of prehistoric America. Built entirely of glass and steel, the Mildred B. Cooper Memorial Chapel overlooks Lake Norwood from a wooded hilltop in Bella Vista. You will be totally amazed as you tour this breathtaking attraction. We will take a few minutes to visit the Veteran’s Wall of Honor. The site includes a 36-foot timeline chronicling major historical engagements with more than 3,500 veterans’ names engraved in granite. Our day of touring is complete but before we depart for home, we have included a lovely dinner at Fred’s Hickory Inn. Our arrival in Springfield should be around 8:30 PM.
