Day 5, Wednesday, March 3

Ocala, Florida is the gorgeous part of Florida. No beaches, no sand, no towering hotels, just lovely green wooded hills, pastures and horses, horses everywhere. This is the Horse Capital of the World with Thoroughbreds, Jumpers, Hunters, Shires, Vanners, to name just a few of the many breeds that we will see on this tour. We will watch them perform their jumps and turns as we sit in the grandstand, we will see them from horse drawn trolley rides, we will view the farms from the comfort of our Coach, and we will be able to see them up close and personal. Today’s schedule includes a Step-on-guide to board our coach and give us a narrated driving tour of Ocala including the historic district and several horse farms. After an included BBQ lunch at the Ocala Carriage Museum, we will take a horse drawn trolley tour of the farm. After lunch we will enjoy the natural beauty of Rainbow Springs State Park where the clear blue water is 72 degrees year round and the springtime flowers are just beginning to bloom. Dunnellon, Florida is a unique, historic town founded in 1887. We will spend some time browsing main street before departing for our evening meal at the Stumpknocker’s Restaurant on the banks of the Withlacoochee River.

Day 6, Thursday, March 4

Our day begins with a tour of the Florida Carriage Museum featuring more than 160 antique restored carriages from both England and the United States. Next, we take our Glass Bottom Boat Cruise at Silver Springs where we can view underwater life as far as 40 feet below the surface. There will be plenty of time to explore this lovely park, reputedly the world’s largest formation of clear artisian springs and home to many movies such as “Creature from the Black Lagoon.”. Lunch is included today at the “Horse n’ Hounds” restaurant which is very fitting as our next stop is “Horses in the Sun” where we will be able to watch the Jumpers and Hunters compete. Tour the show grounds and see the horses during their work out.

Day 7, Friday, March 5

We depart Ocala and travel to the east coast and the city of St. Augustine, the oldest, continuously occupied European settlement in the United States. There will be time for you to explore this historic town and have lunch before we have to head back towards the cold north winds. We travel to Tipton, Georgia for our overnight.
