Day 1,Thursday, November 30

We journey to historic Natchitoches (Nack-a-tish), LA today. Upon arrival, we will have a lovely dinner before heading over to Northwestern State University for their annual Christmas Gala.  This amazing show includes the symphony, choirs, dancers, and more and has been a tradition for over 35 years! (D)

Day 2, Friday December 1

This morning we have a local guide to share with us one of the most preserved and romantic towns in the United States. A booming community in the 1800’s Natchitoches was spared from destruction during the Civil War and the result is a vibrant living historical district that continues to serve the community today. After a stop at a quirky shop on a pecan plantation we head on into Lafayette. Here we are met by our Cajun guide to give us a tour of Lafayette. Tonight, we will be treated to a spirited evening with Cajun food, music and dance! Be prepared to dust off your dancing shoes! (B D)

Day 3, Saturday, December 2

In 1847 Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote an epic poem entitled “Evangeline.” This poem spread around the world and brought light to the relocation of the Acadians from Nova Scotia to the Louisiana territory. We will visit The Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site which explores the history and cultures of the diverse peoples that settled along the Bayou Teche. We then head to Avery Island-home to the McIlhenny family and their famous Tabasco sauce. We will have lunch in the 1868 Restaurant and a tour of the Tabasco factory. This evening we get to enjoy a local Christmas Parade and festival-perhaps a great time to sample a bowl of Gumbo?? (B L)

Day 4, Sunday, December 3

We start our journey toward home today as we leave Lafayette and say Hello! to Shreveport. We will have a bit of free time for some last minute Christmas shopping and lunch. Tonight we will be treated to a lovely dinner at the historic Fairfield Manor before visiting the Gardens at the American Rose Center. This 60 acre park has more than 20,000 rosebushes and during the Christmas season becomes a winter wonderland with thousands of twinkling lights, train rides, life sized Christmas cards and St Nick himself! (B D)

Day 5, Monday, December 4

With visions of sugarplums dancing in our heads we return home to Springfield. The Christmas Spirit and Cajun Joie de Vivre will be sure to last all through the New Year!!
