A colorful leafy canopy of vibrant reds, oranges and yellows sprinkled with dark green pines and pin oaks cannot be guaranteed – Mother Nature is ornery and quite contrary.
Gracing the south bluff of Arkansas’s highpoint, the Lodge at Mount Magazine is one of the finest Arkansas lodges and offers some of the most breathtaking scenery in the Natural State. You’ll have a chance to leisurely explore the surrounding trails, visit with State Park Rangers about the flora and fauna exclusive to the area and swim in the lodge’s pool or soak in the hot tub.
Start your tour at Wiederkehr Wine Cellars for lunch, and finish by boarding the Arkansas & Missouri Railroad for a delightful trip through the autumn scenery from Van Buren to Springdale. This will be a relaxing time to re-charge your batteries for the Holidays ahead.

We’ll detour just off the highway to Wiederkehr Village, AR and enjoy wine tasting at Wiederkehr Wine Cellars, followed by our kick-off luncheon of Swiss delicacies at the Weinkeller Restaurant. Wiederkehr Wine Cellars is one of western Arkansas’ premier wineries since 1880. Then head for Mount Magazine State Park for two nights at the rustic Lodge with its luxurious amenities. Day 2, Tuesday, October 29
Start the morning with a hearty buffet breakfast at the Lodge. Then take a leisurely walk-&-talk with one of the Park Rangers. If you don’t care to explore abundant wildlife, unique history, and spectacular views of Mount Magazine, spend your morning in the indoor pool, hot tub or exercise room overlooking the valley. Grab a quick bite to eat before boarding the coach for a short ride to Subiaco Abbey. One of the Abbey’s monks will be our guide for a quick tour of the Abbey, ending in the Retreat’s store where you can purchase a bottle of their famous Hot Sauce or other items. One the way back to the Lodge we’ll enjoy a dinner of pasta, beef or chicken at the Grapevine in Paris. (B,D)
Day 3, Wednesday, October 30
After breakfast, load up and head west to Van Buren, AR. We’ll board our special VIP railcar and start a 2 1/2 hour journey through scenic foothills, dotted with lakes and carved by fast-moving spring-fed rivers. The train’s conductor will share tales of the area’s history and visit with passengers while we enjoy a sack lunch. Once we arrive in Springdale, AR, take time to explore the Visitor’s Center at the depot. Back on the coach – the next stop is Springfield! Sunnyland thanks you for joining us for a relaxing Fall break in the Arkansas Ozarks, and we look forward to seeing you again soon on one of our Christmas tours! (B,L)
