Day 1, Monday, May 8

We begin our journey south by traveling to Jackson, MS for our hotel overnight.  (D)

Day 2, Tuesday, May 9

Today we have lunch and a tour of Bellingrath Gardens, the home and gardens of Walter and Bessie Bellingrath, one of the country’s first Coca-Cola magnates.  That afternoon we travel on to Biloxi for the next two nights.  (B  L)

Day 3, Wednesday, May 10

After breakfast we head out on the water for a Shrimping boat tour.  Here we learn how shrimp is caught, processed and finally ends up on your plate — which it does! – We follow the dock tour with a dockside shrimp boil.  This afternoon we join a local guide to learn of the spirit and history of Biloxi including a visit to Jefferson Davis’ home and library, the beautiful Beauvior Mansion.  (B  L)

Day 4, Thursday, May 11

This morning we travel to New Orleans where our local guide shares their magical city with us.  After some free time for lunch, we visit LongVue House and Gardens.  This National Historic Landmark was the former home of Edgar and Edith Stern and the gardens were designed by the famous landscape artist, Ellen Biddle Shipman.  This evening promises to be fun as we have a great dinner and culinary lesson at the New Orleans School of Cooking.  (B  D)

Day 5, Friday, May 12

History comes alive this morning as we visit Laura, a Creole plantation along the Mississippi River.  Here, several original antebellum structures remain, making it one of the most complete plantation complexes in Louisiana.  After returning to New Orleans, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy this fun and vibrant city.  (B)

Day 6, Saturday, May 13

We have to say good-bye to New Orleans as we head toward home.  Along the way, we are treated to a lovely lunch in one of the most beautiful homes in Natchez, Choctaw House.  We rest our heads in Little Rock, AR tonight.  (B  L)

Day 7, Sunday, May 14

We come back in to Springfield today with wonderful memories and many new friends from our Southern Homes and Hospitality tour.  (B)
